I LOVE NEW YORK
BUT I LIVE IN DENVER
In 2020 Mario Zoots spent 17 days in a New York City hotel room writing “an optical love letter to a city that captured my attention and [missing] the city my roots are tied to.”
Using materials sourced from around the city—postcards, magazines, books, slide negatives—Zoots captured the chaotic, noisy, asphalt romance of New York. The city itself served as a guide for composition as the individual pieces were taped and layered on the large glass window of the room looking out onto a cityscape.
Still, despite this whirlwind romance, Zoots felt a longing for his hometown, Denver.
